HEIA 2027 Presenter Expressions of Interest

Presenter Expressions of Interest are now open for the HEIA 2027 National Conference, taking place from Sunday 4 – Wednesday 7 July 2027 at Australian Catholic University, Strathfield Campus, Sydney.

Under the theme ‘Shaping the future: Navigating towards resilience and sustainability’, the conference will explore how innovative practice, collaboration and future-focused thinking can help create positive change.

Who can present?

We welcome submissions from educators, researchers, academics, industry professionals, health and community practitioners, government, business and other experts with relevant experience or insights.

We are particularly interested in presentations exploring:

• Contemporary research and emerging practice
• Classroom innovation and pedagogy
• Sustainable systems
• New and emerging technologies
• Life skills and resilience
• Approaches that prepare individuals, families and communities for a changing world

Presentation areas

Presentations should align with one or more home economics-related areas, including:

• Australian Curriculum, pedagogy and assessment
• Consumer education
• Design and technologies
• Environmental, social and economic issues
• Family studies
• Food and nutrition
• Resource management
• Resilience and mindfulness
• Respectful relationships
• Textiles, fashion and clothing

Presentation formats

Choose from a range of presentation formats:

Non-interactive sessions
30 minute non-interactive sessions with questions and discussion.

Interactive sessions 
60 or 90 minute interactive sessions. It is envisaged that the interactive sessions will contain input from the facilitator, followed by strong interactive application of that input to professional and/or personal lives.

All interactive sessions should incorporate:

• academic rigour, including up-to-date knowledge about key issues related to the aim of the conference, and their relevance to intended delegates
• experiential learning, with opportunity for delegates to, for example, analyse and interpret information; and adapt and apply new ideas and/or skills to professional and/or personal lives
• reflection, to encourage a deeper appreciation of how delegates can use what they have learnt to extend their practice and/or sphere of influence.

Poster presentation
Submissions are welcome for poster presentations, with the poster displayed during the conference with an opportunity for authors to speak to their poster (10 minutes).

Trade display showcase or demonstration
Lightning presentations to support exhibitor/trade displays.

Presentation content: If your presentation is about new products/services and how you can help delegates investigate creative ways of integrating the product into their everyday practice, please try to limit your delivery to be about the experience and features rather than delivering a sales pitch. We understand you would like to promote and sell your product/services, but request this only happens as part of a trade booth presentation. For example if it is a new tool – try to discuss the features and benefits of the tool, rather than specifically talk about and refer to the brand. Invite delegates to approach you after your session if they want more information about the brand of the tool and where they can buy it.

What to submit

Your Expression of Interest should include:

• Your name and organisation
• Presentation title
• Proposed presentation format
• 250-word description of the presentation (abstract), including its relevance to the conference theme and an 80-word presentation summary which will be included in conference promotional material, followed by a list of up to six keywords that define the subject matter
• An 80-word presenter biography
• Confirmation that you accept the presenter obligations and entitlements

Submit your Expression of Interest

To provide optimum opportunity for your abstract to be selected as a conference presentation, it should:

• state the particular idea, issue, practice, proposal or thesis the paper intends to address
• state the objectives and scope of the presentation and how it links to the conference objectives
• briefly describe the work to be covered in the presentation
• It is an absolute expectation that your presentation will accurately reflect your abstract.

Please note, should your presentation submission be accepted, it will be published in the registration brochure and conference program, and in the conference app.

Thinking about submitting a paper?

Authors may also submit a paper based on their presentation content for consideration for publication in the HEIA Journal. Papers can be submitted for peer review or as non-peer-reviewed papers.

• Peer-reviewed papers: 3,000–5,000 words
• Non-peer-reviewed papers: Up to 3,000 words
• Paper submission deadline: Sunday 31 January 2027

Papers should follow APA 7th edition referencing conventions and the HEIA Style Guide.

Presenter entitlements

While presenters are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses, presenters with successful submissions will receive a discount on standard or full registration fees if registering for the conference. This discount does not apply to trade display showcase or demonstration presentation type.

Terms and conditions

You must agree to the following terms and conditions and have the authority to submit in order to proceed:

• Presentations may be scheduled for any time during the conference.
• Presentation times may vary slightly from those outlined in this form and in call for papers information on the conference website.
• HEIA reserves the right to publish material submitted.
• Presenters who are submitting papers are required to submit their entire papers on or before the due date of Sunday 31 January 2027.
• Papers are free of copyright and HEIA Inc. is authorised to hold copyright.
• While presenters are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses, presenters with successful submissions will receive a discount on standard or full registration fees if registering for the conference. This discount does not apply to trade display showcase or demonstration presentation type.
• The registration deadline for presenters is Friday 19 March 2027. If you do not register by this date you will be sent an enquiry email. If you do not respond to this email it will be assumed you are not attending and your presentation will be withdrawn.

Copyright:

• HEIA Inc. assumes copyright ownership of all published materials in the conference program.
• Authors may negotiate copyright release in advance of publication.
• HEIA Inc. has the right to reprint selected papers and workshop outlines in its publications.

Authority to submit:

• My submission accurately reflects the content of my presentation.
• I have permission from co-authors and/or my Principal/Head of Department (if applicable) to submit this presentation submission.

Presenters must also acknowledge your submission accurately reflects the content of your presentation, and you have permission from co-authors and/or your Principal/Head of Department (if applicable) to submit your presentation submission.
