King and Amy O’Malley Trust scholarships

In the belief that Australian family life should be strengthened for the nation's benefit and having no living relatives, King and Amy O'Malley directed in their wills that the capital and accumulated interest from their estates be used to establish the King and Amy O'Malley Trust Fund. They specified that the Fund's monies be used to provide financial assistance to students studying 'Domestic Economy' (Home Economics).

In 1984, the Victorian Supreme Court established an administration scheme for the Fund, declaring it to be managed by a Trustee and Advisory Committee. HEIA has a representative on the Advisory Committee who regularly reports to the HEIA Council. The current HEIA representative is Dr. Sandra Fordyce-Voorham (HEIA[V]), a past O'Malley Trust scholar.

The King and Amy O'Malley Trust awards annual Australia-wide undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships to students enrolled in or applying for programs in any home economics-related field. The Trust offers four levels of scholarships:

  • Undergraduate – full-time
  • Undergraduate – part-time
  • Post graduate – full-time
  • Post graduate – part-time.

Further details on the application process, including selection criteria and forms, are available on the King & Amy O’Malley Trust website. Applications are due by the last Friday of July each year.

HEIA has representatives on each of the state and territory assessment panels.
