HEIA and the 2020 conference committee have been monitoring the spread of the COVID-19 virus across Australia as well as related Government and health advice and restrictions.
As a result of (i) the social distancing policies and the uncertainty of the situation later this year with regard to COVID-19, (ii) government policies and (iii) whether organisations will allow their staff to travel and attend conferences, the Conference Committee have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 conference.
The HEIA national conference has been postponed and will now occur from 27-29 September 2021 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.
As a significant amount of work has gone into preparing the 2020 conference program, we would like to maintain the current schedule of presentations, site visits, tours etc and hope that all invited speakers and venues will be available to participate in the 2021 conference.
Registrations for those who have already registered to attend the 2020 conference will be transferred to the 2021 conference and registrants will receive a separate email regarding their booking.
The postponement will inevitably mean additional costs are incurred – for example, there will be normal Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased costs for the venue hire and catering, in addition to increases for items such as interstate speakers’ flights. We hope to keep these increases to a minimum and will consider options whereby delegates could spread their payment over 2020 and 2021. We anticipate that there will be no increased costs for those already registered for the conference. We will keep you posted on such matters.
We sincerely hope that the postponement will provide certainty for your forward planning and that we can all work together and come together to participate in and celebrate our professional learning at the 2021 conference.
